Ruth Tumushabe
Ruth
Tumushabe is fifteen years old and currently attends
St. Lawrence Schools and Colleges. A native of Nyamirima
Village, Uganda, Ruth hopes to graduate in 2010, and
would very much like to continue her education at
the university level. While at school, she is involved
with Scripture Union and in her free time enjoys singing,
reading novels, and spending time with friends.
She
also cares deeply for her community and hopes to put
her education to use helping them in whatever ways
she can. She is currently a member of CORBURWAS branch
of Educate! in the Kyangwali Refugee Camp. Amongst
other things, she helps raise funds for future club
projects through digging.
For
Ruth, Educate! has allowed her to further her goals
of helping out her community. “Before Educate!
I had no hope of continuing with studies, I am now
happy knowing that life for me and my community members
will be improved once I get my qualifications.”
Awarded
an Educate! scholarship in 2004, Ruth is sponsored
completely by the Educate! club at Fairview High School
in Boulder, Colorado, a connection she says she values
because she is “Being exposed to the rest of
the world and knows what takes place in other places
through Educate! supporters.”
