Students
Christopher
Rugadya
Christopher,
21, and his sister Jane, are the only Educate! students
who are not refugees. Educate! felt that due to his
and his sister's academic excellence and potential,
they deserved an Educate! scholarship, even though
we typically only offer them for refugees.
Christopher
is currently attending the Ishaka School of Nursing.
Previously, he attended Duhaga Secondary School. He
specialized in the sciences with the hopes of becoming
a doctor in the future. In school he works towards
this goal by caring for and helping the sick in the
hospital.
Outside
the school, Christopher works to provide health education
and make his community more aware of the problem of
STDs. A very skilled linguist, Christopher was appointed
by Unicef to teach adolescents about STDs. He now
travels on the bicycle Unicef gave him and teaches
other youth about the dangers of STDs and methods
of protection. Christopher initially had STD training
in Ordinary level when he was secretary of the Straight
Talk Club but has since taken classes from Unicef.
He is particularly qualified for this job because
he speaks seven languages - English, Kishwahiili,
Runyoro, Alur, A choli, Rugungu, Lendu, and Langi.
In
addition to his studies and his work for Unicef, Christopher
enjoys playing indoor and outdoor sports, such as
soccer, ludo, Snakes and Ladder and Scrabble. Christopher
also likes to listen to slow music such as Gospel
and loves traveling and reading story books and novels.
"With
Educate!, mere words can not explain how much good
things it has so far done and still doing to me because
my future is education, which Educate! has freely
offered to me."
I
had put my heart and soul into studying but couldn't
make it without help but because Educate! I am what
I am and what I'm to be. I couldn't understand the
meaning of life, I had no hope for education.
